On the red carpet for “Joy”
It was an absolute thrill to attend the Cunard Gala at the London Film Festival for the World Premiere of the film Joy, which tells the story of the three pioneers of IVF and their ten years of work leading up to my birth in 1978.

The film “Joy” - based on events that led to my birth – gets its world premiere in London on October 15 and will be released on Netflix from November 22.
Two IVF (first) babies have a chat
Elizabeth Carr was the first IVF birth in the USA. She was born on December 28, 1981, and was the 14th baby in the world to be born using the techniques developed by Bob Edwards and Patrick Steptoe. Her parents had to travel from their home in Massachusetts to Norfolk, Virginia to seek help from pioneering doctors Howard and Georgeanna Jones who had worked with Edwards and Steptoe.
New exhibit at Science Museum
The Science Museum in London has a new exhibit in its “Who am I?” gallery that includes the actual glass incubator used by Robert Edwards, Patrick Steptoe and Jean Purdy to carry out the first In Vitro Fertilisation treatment leading to my birth.

In August 1978 my face took up the whole of the front cover of Stern Magazine in Germany, announcing my arrival in the world.
New generation learn about pioneers through drama
Bourn Hall was the first IVF clinic in the world. It was founded by the pioneers Patrick Steptoe and Bob Edwards after I was born. The story of the founders and embryologist Jean Purdy is getting a lot of attention at the moment. As an ambassador for Bourn Hall I was pleased to write a blog to mark my 46th birthday.
Work of the pioneers still has impact
I am hoping that another theatre somewhere in the world soon takes the plunge and puts on a production of the Gareth Farr play A Child of Science.
